October 15th – Grades

After work yesterday I called to see if my girls wanted to go to the Halloween store to look at costumes.   I found out yesterday was report card day.  My youngest daughter is doing awesome with mostly A’s, a couple of B’s and a C, in computers (typing).  My oldest daughter is another story.  She is a smart kid but failing most of her classes.  Her mom has grounded her and I spoke with her but I don’t really know how to motivate her to do better.   It’s basic laziness, she has learned that there are no real negative consequences for not doing her work.  In school, they basically give her easier work (and less of it) and at home she gets yelled at and grounded but it never lasts very long.   My current goal is to try and figure out how to motivate her to do better (and motivate my youngest to keep doing well).   I am not really sure how to get it done but one of my co-workers has suggested I check out some of the books put out by the Love & Logic Institute.  If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears :)

I skipped yesterday’s after work run as I was finding myself out of breath after climbing stars or walking uphill.  I am going to take the afternoon off work today and go see a doctor.   Hopefully I can nip this thing in the bud and feel better by the weekend.  I am going to hold off on running until this thing goes away but I am going to try and walk a little more as staying active tends to shorten the duration of these things.
