October 12th – Another Great Weekend!

I am having a seriously busy Monday but I wanted to take a second and post an update.   I have a great weekend.  I had dinner with my kids Friday night and found out they were spending the weekend with their Grandma.  I ended up skipping the run Saturday morning and finished moving.  It’s nice to be completely in the new place.  The only thing I really have left to do is clean up the pile of clothes on my bedroom floor (I’m working on it).

I spent Sunday with my grandma and my 8-year-old cousin Gracie.  My Grandma’s place has a game room with a pool table.  I have decided that I am the world’s worst pool player as my 8-year-old cousin beat me 3 out of 3 games which resulted in me owing her a trip to the park and ice cream.  It was fun.

Today is another rest day. I have been fighting the urge to run all day today.  I can’t wait for tomorrow morning’s run!

October 9th – Rest!

After sleeping on the floor all last week, I was really excited about my first night back in my bed.   I have to tell you I love my bed.  In fact I love my bed so much I can’t believe I spent all that time awake when I was on drugs.

After work yesterday, I moved some more things to my new place and then went for my Hal Higdon scheduled three mile run.  It was really neat because my 14-year-old cousin, who is helping me move, went with me.   He opted to walk for the first half of the run so I left him at the start with the goal of meeting up with him on the way back.  I started the run a little later so I was starting to get dark as I reached the one mile point.   Thinking the Bear Creek Greenway at night may be a little scary for my cousin, I pushed myself to run a little faster.  After the turn around, I met up with my cousin at about the 1 mile point.  He started running with me at that point and we ran the last mile together.  At the end I told him how great he did and he admitted that it was mostly driven by fear of the dark greenway.  I could tell that he was extremely proud of himself as well.  Overall it was a great run.   Today is a much needed rest day.  I have some more moving to do, I am hoping to be done today, and I need to get my cousin back to my grandma’s this evening.  There is a 10k in Jacksonville tomorrow but I am not sure if I am running.   I am scheduled to do 11 miles so I am running for sure but I don’t know how late I will be in Grants Pass this evening.  I may end up staying at my grandma’s place and running up there Saturday morning.

October 6th – Running The Greenway Again

It’s amazing how running on a familiar course improves your performance.  Until tonight, I didn’t realize how much I missed running the Bear Creek Greenway.  It’s so peaceful and serene.  I am running without music these days and tonight I really enjoyed the rhythm of my breathing and sound of my footsteps on the pavement.   I got lost in the run and the three miles were over before I knew it.  I was a little bummed to see it end.  I could have easily gone twice as far and probably still would have wanted more.   Tonight I remembered everything I love about running and I can’t wait for tomorrow (morning’s!) six mile run.

October 6th – Didn’t Do It

Well.  I didn’t do it.  I was hanging out with my girls after work yesterday until about 9:30 and decided to watch a show when I got home so I didn’t get in bed until about midnight.   I woke up on time for a run this morning but opted to snooze until it was time to get ready for work.   I am going to put in the miles today but I will probably do it after work.  I am moving to a cheaper place that is closer to my girls so I will be signing paperwork at lunch.  The new place is in Central Point and is located close to the Bear Creek Greenway so I am going to run tonight’s 3 miles on the greenway.   I am excited!

September 29th – Cold and Clear

Last night’s rain has cleared the air considerably.  So far this morning it has been cold out so I am really looking forward to a cold and clear run at lunch-time.  I am actually feeling a bit under the weather today.  I have been fighting the start of a cold for the past couple of days and I think the cold is starting to get the upper hand.  I always catch some sort of cold when the weather changes so I am not too worried about it.  This weekend’s long run is only 6 miles so it is the perfect time to get sick (if there ever was a perfect time).  To try and minimize the effects/duration,  I am doubling up on the fluids today (so far that means a large pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks, but I am switching to water now).   I will write again after my run this afternoon.

Sept 17th – A Revised Plan

I spent the morning in meetings so I don’t have a whole lot to report.  I am having lunch with a friend so it looks like today’s 3 mile run will have to wait until after work.  Woke up with a bit of lower leg pain this morning so I am looking forward to the run to see how things go.   The original plan was to start in week  6 of the HH plan, as the Las Vegas Marathon is only 13 weeks away but I spoke with my friend who will be training with me and we decided to start with week 1 of the plan and see how things go.  If possible, we may skip forward after building a more solid base.   If not, I will just start the taper early with my longest run being 17 miles.  I still think I will have enough of a base at that point to run LV.  If anyone has an opinion (Tammy) I would love to hear it.  Back to work for now, I will write again after tonight’s run.
