November 24th – Vegas Is Off, Eugene Is The New Goal

Let’s start with the bad news.  I am not going to run the Las Vegas marathon.  I had a great conversation with my dad yesterday where we discussed my plan for the marathon.   The truth is that, given my level of fitness I have been wanting to call it off for a little while now.  The only reason I waited so long is that my dad and family had already made travel plans.  It meant a lot that they were going to watch me run and I didn’t want to let them down.  My dad reassured me that I am making the correct decision and as he put it “they will figure out something to do in Vegas”.

I am making a new goal.  I am going to run the (entire) Eugene Marathon on May 2, 2010.   I have heard really good things about the event and it’s nearby so I will be able to run with local runners.  I am excited to once again have an attainable goal.  As far as training goes, I am going to stick with my current plan for the next couple of months.  I think it will help to build a solid base and I just can’t imagine doing my weekend long runs on the treadmill.

I hit the gym again for a three-mile run.  I am running much better this week.  I ran the first mile a little faster than yesterday (6.5 mph)  and then alternated between 5mph and 6mph, every half mile for the rest of the run.  I was fairly exhausted by the end of the run and it felt great.   I decided to hit the weights after my run.  Today was a scheduled no lifting day but with this being a holiday week I wanted to get it in when I had the chance.
