Sept 16th – Can’t Wait To Run This Evening
I had an early meeting this morning so I didn’t get a chance to run before work. I am also meeting a friend for lunch today so I will have to put off my 6 mile run until after work. The friend I am meeting for lunch is joining me in my Las Vegas Marathon training and has already put in her six miles today. I am excited to have her training with me. I don’t know if it’s the Eat Local Challenge diet or what but I have tons of energy these days. I could barely sleep last night and I can’t wait to run this evening!

Sept 14th – Wine And Pears (My Eat Local Week Diet)
I had a great weekend. I spent friday night at a friend’s birthday party (she turned 4). It was awesome seeing everyone and playing with the kids. After the party, I headed up to Corvallis. I got in pretty late so my Saturday morning run was a bit detailed. We headed up to the vineyard around 7am to get started on the bottling. By about noon I was starving and a bit buzzed from the wine QC process. After an awesome lunch of home-made spaghetti and bread, my head felt much better and we headed back to work. I’m not much of a drinker so I opted out of the QC process for the second half of the day. In the end we bottled about 62 cases of wine spanning about 11 varieties. I had a great time. It was really nice seeing everyone from the vineyard and it was really great working with my Dad. I am going to make sure I get back up there in a couple of weeks for the first harvest of the new vines.
I ended up leaving Saturday night so I could meet up with a friend Sunday. My friend ended up ditching me so I spent the day with my Grandma. I love visiting Grandma. She doesn’t get online much but she is one of my biggest supporters and it was great seeing her.
I am doing pretty good with the “Eat Local Challenge“. The vineyard in Corvallis is located on a farm and before I left, my little sister and I had the opportunity to visit the farm’s pear trees. In the end, I wound up with a ridiculous box of fresh picked, organic, pears. While I was at my Grandma’s, I picked up some locally grown veggies from the community garden and about a half gallon of fresh blackberries from the vines behind her place. I have been keeping a log of the local vs non-local items from each meal so I can source or replace some of the non local items with locally grown/made. So far, eating local has been much healthier and much, much, cheaper (All of my local food so far has cost me about $4). Now, if I can only find some local meat of some sort (I guess it’s time to go fishing).
