February 24th – Lunchtime Running

February 24, 2010

I really like running in the middle of the day.  It’s a really nice break from sitting in front of my computer and it’s an excellent way to beat the afternoon slump.   I’ve been feeling a little tired all day and this afternoon’s run reflected that.  I have a little bit of a runny nose but mostly just feel run down.

My run, this afternoon, was about the same as my run last night.   I started slow and ran for a mile before finishing with intervals for the next two miles.   I am a little upset about the fact that I  am having so much trouble running three miles.  I am using the intervals to run faster but it seems that my legs and calves are just “flat”.

In keeping with my plan to run twice a day, I am going back to the gym after work.  I am guessing that my second round won’t go much better than this afternoon’s but I am looking forward to it anyway.

    Hi Jason
I am assuming that when you talk about running interval you are doing a walk/ run. I have probably missed it somewhere in your blog but when I started running I started at a 5:1 walk1min run 1min then increased by 5:2 etc up to 5:7 and then decreased the walk time down to 1:10 once i did this 3 times a week I just started running full out no intervals its a good way to strengthen and increase speed.
How are things going? congrats on your new job :)

Usually my intervals consist of running slowly for a minute and then progressively faster for two minutes at a time until I reach my goal distance. This week, however, has been a different story. I’ve had no energy this week so I’ve been alternating between walking and running. I think I’m getting sick again. Thanks for the congrats! I am really digging the new job.
