November 18th – Homework Again

November 19, 2009

I received a call as I was leaving work.  The call was my oldest daughter making sure I was coming over after work to help with homework.  I went over there right after work and found her in the middle of a pile of papers.  The assignment was to explore her talents and propensities to determine what possible career paths she should consider.  When I arrived she had about half of the paperwork filled in but the answers were not well thought out and didn’t really match with the questions.   After taking some time to explain why it was important and what the goal of the assignment was, we started over.  At first,  it took a few tries per question but after about an hour she started to think about her answers.  This is the first time I have really gotten through to her about the importance of school work.  When she payed attention to detail, she did good work.

The only down side is that homework took three hours and took up my gym time.  I am going to try and go in the morning.  I may not have time to lift but I should have no problem getting in a run.   I can’t wait!

Great progress. I am sure she treasures the time and attention from you, and will feel better about herself on the work itself. Good job.

I am leaving Bangalore for home tonight — 29 hours of travel — and will check your diary after I get home to see how all is going.

Love you son. I hope to see you next week for Thanksgiving dinner.

    Love you,
    Dad

Last night totally reminded me of those nights we spent at the kitchen table. I remember erasing and re-writing things until I payed attention to detail. It took a while but I finally figured out that it’s just faster to do it right the first time. Thanks!
