October 30th – May Skip The Monser Dash

I am reconsidering the run tomorrow.  It’s really cold and nasty in Ashland these days and I don’t want my kids to have a miserable time running with me.  I am thinking we should go check out the parade instead.  I am going to talk to them tonight, after work, and see what they say.  I am a little bummed that we won’t be running but I would rather skip this one and opt for a run that will be more fun for them (next year’s pear blossom 1 mile is my plan).  Who knows, they may decide to run in the cold :)

I didn’t run after work yesterday.  I picked up some extra work from a past client and decided to work on that after work.  I just can’t seem to shake this  congestion and difficulty breathing.  It’s just no fun running when you can’t breathe.

October 29th – A Running Update

I actually did get a run in after work yesterday.  I ran from my place to my kid’s place to pick them up and then we ran/walked together on the way back.  The “run” to their place was only about .58 miles but at least it was something.  I don’t know what’s up by my lungs are still full of guck.   I had a really hard time breathing after the run.  I am going to try again today and see how it goes.

October 28th – Carving Pumpkins

I headed over to my kid’s place after work yesterday and we had a blast carving pumpkins.   My oldest daughter is very meticulous.  She carefully cleaned out the insides and carefully cut each hole so they were perfect.  My youngest, on the other hand, started out carefully and ended up cutting one big hole in the front of hers and then carved the back into a face (complete with eyelashes).  I made a pig pumpkin, complete with piggy ears, and a piggy nose.  It was a lot of fun and the pumpkins looked great all lit up.

I am still not running.  I just can’t drag my lazy but out of bed in the morning to run in the cold and I have been spending the time after work with my kids.   I am thinking about getting a gym membership so I can run on the treadmill in the evenings.  It’s not the same as running outside but much safer than running outside in the dark.

My kids and I are definitely running the Monster Dash so we are going to hit Wal-Mart after work so I can get a costume. It should be a lot of fun.

October 27th – Snow!

Ok, so it’s not a lot of snow.  Some might say it’s more of a frost but when I was driving into work this morning I took a look at the hills above Ashland and they were white and beautiful.   I was listening to the Mt. Ashland ski report earlier in the week and I know they are getting decent snow up there.   I didn’t run again this morning.  I don’t have a good excuse or really any excuse at all.  It was warm in my bed, cold outside, and I just skipped it and slept in.  I need to figure out a routine that works for me.

After work yesterday, I went to pick out pumpkins with my girls.  The farm where we usually get them was closed so we ended up visiting two different grocery stores before my youngest found her “perfect pumpkin”.  At one point she was completely inside the pumpkin bin digging through the pumpkins.  It was awesome.

My kids and I are definitely running the Monster Dash here in Ashland at 2pm on Saturday October 31st.  We are only going to do the mile but we are going to dress up and it’s going to be a whole lot of fun.

October 26th – Pasta!

I hate to put off posting until the end of the day but I had the craziest day at work today.  We are starting some new projects and there is a plenty of work to go around.   Speaking of being busy I convinced myself, this morning, that the only way I am going to have time to run is if I do it in the morning.  I realized this in the car on the way to work, after hitting the snooze button a few times so tomorrow will be my first morning run.  I was going to try and run after work today but it’s raining and I haven’t seen my kids in a couple of days so I am going to try and spend some time with them before they have to go to bed.

I had a great weekend.  I spent some time with my Grandma and Cousin on Saturday and then met up with a friend Saturday evening to make homemade pasta.  It was really a whole lot of fun.  Sort of like playing with adult play-doh. I went back to Grants Pass on Sunday to hike Cathedral Hills with a friend.  It was an amazing hike.   There were these crazy groves of madrone and manzanita and the fall colors were amazing.  It was a really cool fall hike.

I had a full day here at work so I am heading home to play with my kids.

October 23rd – Bully

I found out yesterday that my kids were going to be busy all weekend (including today) so I am going to head up to Grants Pass after work to hang out with Grandma.

Daniel  is having a hard time with a bully.  He is scared and feeling  like a wuss so I am going to go up and remind him that everyone is scared sometimes and help him talk to his step-mom about it.  I am the only one in the office today so I think I am going to make it a half day so I can get a run in before I go.  I am thinking it’s a great day to run the Bear Creek Greenway.

October 22nd – A Zig Zag Run

I just went for a zig zagging run through my neighborhood in central point.  I decided to stay off the main roads and, instead, run up and down the streets around my place.  In total I logged 2.83 miles, just barely shy of my 3 mile goal.    Today’s run was still a bit hard but much easier than yesterday.  I think a couple of runs from now I will feel good again.  I am excited.

October 22nd – Glad To Be Running Again

As the title says, I am really happy to be running again.   Yesterday’s run was awful.  My legs were sore, my lungs were sore, I had a headache but it was also great.   I love the feeling when I overcome laziness and pain to go and do something that most people consider no fun at all.  It’s that feeling of accomplishment when you force yourself to go that extra (half) mile.  I have been really tired lately.  I rocked the snooze button again this morning until I was rushing to get to work.  I am going to run again after work but this time I am going to find a more peaceful route, away from traffic.

October 21st – Running Again

I started to get a crazy headache about 3pm today and it kept getting worse throughout the end of the day.  I am sure it’s mostly due to dehydration.  I have been totally lax in the h2o department.  I almost skipped the run when I got home but decided to go anyway.  I used the Map My Run website to figure out a 3 mile loop that starts at my place.  I have mixed feelings about the new route.  On one hand it is a lot easier to not have to commute to run but on the other I really don’t like running next to traffic.   Today’s route was on the main street here in Central Point.   I think it will help to map a route that follows less congested areas.

Speaking of congestion, I really only made it a 1.45 miles today.  I can still feel a lot of congestion in my chest.  I have tried not running and I can’t really take it anymore so now I am going to try running and see what that does.  I am thinking of it as more of an experiment than just plain running when I’m sick so Mom…  I am running in the name of science :)

October 21st – Wild Things

I didn’t get my run in after work yesterday.  I left a bit early because my kids called me and wanted to watch a movie.   I picked them up and we watched “Where the Wild Things Are”.  It was a good movie and we had a great time.   After the movie we went back to their place and did some homework.  I am going back again after work today to hang out and do homework.

I woke up late again this morning and didn’t run.  I think part of the problem is that I don’t have time to walk to the Bear Creek Greenway and run in the morning.  Instead I have to drive over, run, and then drive back.  I am going to figure out a route I can start at my doorway and run the city streets.  There is almost no traffic in the morning so it should make for a nice run.  I think it will help to simplify things.
